Muslin Dreams, a cabaret style, jazz duo hailing from Wiscasset, Maine is composed of Amber Gates on vocals and her husband, Benjamin on acoustic guitar. They present a fresh and modern take to the Great American Songbook, paying homage to those such as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin.
The duo boasts a substantial repertoire of songs and the ability to play for two hours. Their jazz style is incredibly well suited for both foreground and background music. It is perfect for restaurants and/or lounges. Songs like They Can’t Take That Away From Me and Cheek To Cheek sit comfortably in any patron’s ear, in any setting.
Imagine a smokey cocktail lounge with candle topped round tables arrayed before a small stage. A bearded man sits behind a baby grand and his fingers push full jazz chords. A red haired woman leans on the piano and sings old songs with a voice of caramel. Merely swap out the piano for an acoustic guitar and there you have Muslin Dreams. (With a little less smoke, too.)
Amber is blessed with a rich, deep voice allowing her to croon the songs nearly as familiar as Tony Bennett. Benjamin plays the acoustic guitar with full, spacious chords while never compromising on the complexities of jazz harmonies and rhythms. This all creates a neo folk-jazz sound sure to please.
