We Debuted!

March 29 swooped down like an owl and suddenly we were at the front of the class singing our favorite tune.

We arrived at 1700 and loaded in all the gear. Had sound check at about 1730 and then waited until show time (1800). We wore some green. Amber had on a green dress and shiny white shoes. I wore a green fedora and a grey suit jacket. Polish! We looked like a proper jazz duo.

Then the marked time was upon us. We got up and started the show at 1800 on the dot. The first set went pretty well. I stretched a few chords in the wrong direction but I think only Amber noticed. It was amazing how quickly we flew through the songs. Time felt distorted like we were done just after we started. Everyone was clapping so we must have played the whole collection.

After a quick break to give Amber’s vocal chords a break we stood back up and began collection two. We cruised through and got to the closer. Turns out there were some Fallout 4 (a video game) fans in the room and they recognized “I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire”. That song was also used in the preview for the Prime TV series based on the same game.

Then we hit the last song, “My Way”. A nod to Sinatra and a summation of our way of performing the Great American Songbook. Amber nailed it. No bad notes. I nailed it, no bad chords. After the last of the melody faded the small but appreciative crowd clapped for a while and thanked us for taking the time to perform.

It was a good night.
